Environmental issues around us

Obviously, human beings are now living under a high-developed technology world. The advanced technology makes our life more convenient than before. Inventions of the telephone, the telegraph, vehicles, airplane, computers and so on had already lead the world to a Modern Technology Period. However, the development of advanced technology also brings serious problems to the world. The earth itself is facing environmental issues.

March 31, my 19 years old birthday ,we went to the fishing village near our school during the English class. It was sunny and cloudless, the weather was just comfortable for walking. We went to a small port which had lots of fishing boat firstly. These boats were made of wood and were all connected by a thick rope in order to make them stable. Some boats had modern engines as driving power. Fishing was the major income for most of the villagers, the boats are the only useful tool for them. Sometimes, the boats were as important as the fishers' life. Several of us tried to get inside of the boat, but it was difficult to take it safely. The water of the port had been polluted by the used antifreeze, gas, engine oil of the boat. What's more, its water flew directly to the ocean nearby. We found lots of garbage and waste near the port and those were all the products of modern technology.

Then we walked to the beautiful sand beach. The sand beach was so soft, I felt as if sitting in a sofa which made my body sinking. It was not the flood time, the waves were small. And it was the perfect time for fishing. I saw an old man carried all of his fishing staffs coming here. He set up several baits with modern fishing tools and then sat at a small chair for relaxing. He went fishing for entertainment and the modern tools would give him a sign when it caught fishes. The modern technology makes people become lazy and brainless by its convenience.
We continued to walk until the outside of the Discovery Land Kingdom. There were lots of modern entertainment facilities inside, people were enjoying the excitement. However, nobody noticed that the nature landscapes were destroying by the technology.

A change of perspective to Manjiatan

To be honest, I have been lived in this Senior High Campus for at least three years. And about ninety more days I will graduate from here, I am going to leave the place that I used to call it small town. I always regard Manjiatan as useless countryside since it is not convenient comparing with the city. However, my two friends and I had a special experience in the town several days ago which gave me new ideas about Manjiatan.
One of my friend suggested that we might go to a famous seafood restaurant called “Yu Jia Wen Dao”. She said that it was quite popular in this small town and it was tidy. Although the restaurant was far away from our school, we still chose to walk to it directly. I was wondering why the small town had so many people and such busy traffic on our way to the restaurant. My friends told me that it was the tourism season and the town would attract many people to visit every year.

We arrived at the restaurant about fifteen minutes later. When I tried to enter inside, the waiter helped me to open the door in order to welcome us. I saw several of them were smiling to us friendly which made us feel comfortable. I saw waiters wearing traditional Chinese Tang clothes providing service to customers. I also saw big photos of various delicious dishes on the wall. With the help of the waiter, we found a table by the big window. The sunshine came through the big window made me feel warm. The environment here was as tidy as my friend told me before. The table we sat was flat and clean, the glass covered on the top could even reflect our images as clear as a mirror. I never knew that we had such a nice place just like a city restaurant in this small town. We ate up all the food we had ordered. I tried to chat with other local people, and they accepted me happily. The town people were very polite and they were not as rude as I stereotyped before. Our conversations were pure and honest, we didn't need to hide our true feelings with each others. They would share interesting news of the town with me. I would like to tell activities about our school to them.
Life was incredible because of its difference. No matter in town or city, everyone has own unique life style and it forms the whole society. That was the lesson I learnt from my journey to Manjiatan.

Southampton ,England

Even though, there are many great universities and colleges in Canada, I would like to go to Britain for further education. Since I think that in Britain is more close to my dream which is to be an accountant. However, I will work very hard no matter where I am. Now, I will introduce my future city to you here.

The University of Southampton is a British public university located in the city of Southampton, England. It is already one of the top 10 research universities in the UK and has achieved consistently high scores for its teaching and learning activities. As an international student, I need to take the foundational year firstly before I transfer directly to the university itself.
The range light at Southampton marks the entrance to the harbour. In the distance is the lighthouse on Chantry Island.

Southampton is the largest city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire, on the south coast of England, and is sited around 100 km (62 mi) south-west of London. The geography of Southampton is very much influenced by the sea and rivers. And it is also a major port in England. That is one of the reasons that made me choose Southampton. I grew up in DaLian and I can't imagine my life without sea. I love the ocean so much. The city lies at the northern tip of the Southampton Water, a deep water estuary, which is a ria formed at the end of the last Ice Age.I hear that there is also a place called Southampton in Ontario,Canada which is on the shores of Lake Huron in Bruce County, located at the mouth of the Saugeen River. This area is famous for its fabulous sunsets. It must be very beautiful.

The clouds of DMLIS

As we all know that our school is located at Jinshitan National Holiday Resort which is a pretty famous coastal scenery of Dalian. However, have you ever found that the clouds here, especially in our DMLIS are very beautiful? I am the kind of people who like to observe the change of the sky very much. And I had the chance to seen several different types of cloud in the sky of our school.

I remember that we had learnt the knowledge about clouds last term. And clouds are simply condensed water vapour which are consisted by water droplets. Clouds in the sky are continuously changing, it is difficult for us to tell the exact type of clouds. I have some photos following which showed several clouds in the sky of our school.

I think this photo showed Cumulonimbus clouds. As we learn form last term, Cumulonimbus clouds have flat-topped, ancil-shaped and it produces baseball size hail. It can be classified as Vertical Clouds. The photo was taken by students of our school and I believe that it was taken before a sudden, heavy rainfall. In general, the photo is very artistic. I really love this one.

I am not sure about the type of this cloud. It may be Altocumulus clouds which are white and gray in colour and have a puffy appearance. However, it is very hard to classify the exact type of each clouds. The clouds of the troposphere must have close connection with the weather and climate.

The observation and research of clouds is a good process to learn geography. And we will graduate from DMLIS in three month. I suggest that everyone should get some good memories from our beautiful campus.

Xishuangbanna---Mini-Thailand of China

During the last Summer Vacation, I had a memorable trip to Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province of China. When I firstly got off from the plane, I was attracted deeply by this region. The sky was clear, the air was flesh and the winds were beautiful. In many aspects, Xishuangbanna is regarded as China's own Mini-Thailand since it is a famous tourist destination to our Chinese. Xishuangbanna is the home of the Dai people. It is located at a lower altitude than most parts of Yunnan, and it has a tropical climate. Therefore, it was very hot to me comparing with Dalian. Geography is everywhere, and the trip to Xishuangbana also made me to feel about it.

I have already heard before that Xishuangbanna is the home to the last few Asian elephants still in China. The elephants are protected in a reserve called "Wild Elephant Valley". When I went to visit the valley, I didn't get the chance to see wild elephants. The guide told us the group of wild elephants had been came out before we arrived, and now they may hided into the forest and we couldn't find them. However, we got the chance to see a performance of elephants instead. As the pictures above showed that the elephants were very clever. They had been trained very well by people and they could do many things to entertain us. Elephants are very good friends to human beings. But the numbers of wild elephants were decreased each year by human beings' different activities including hunting and logging. It is a very sad thing and we need to protect them immediately.

In short, for years, the land of Xishuangbanna has been a dream of me. The tropical landscape, the religious architectures, the mysterious rainforest with abundant wildlife, beautiful Dai girls dressed up in gorgeous national costumes and so on.These things made my trip to Xishuangbana unforgettable.
